Refinish Louvered Kitchen Cabinet
Louvered kitchen cabinet – Louvered shutter slats are usually a quarter inch thick and as much as two inches long. For stationary shutters, slats are angled as desired, and glued to the inside of sideskinner. Lameller, which open and close is attached to a slide or tilt bar in the middle of the shutter. Place a drop cloth on the floor in order to protect the surface from any dripping. Choose a well-ventilated area to work in. Apply a coat of paint thinner to the entire cabinet. Let it sit for as long as directed, usually 20 to 30 minutes. Gently scrape off layers of paint by scraping, move in an up and down motion. Apply a new coat of paint darker to the surface of cabinets, such as a dark brown. Allow the paint layer to dry for at least 12 hours. Use a lighter color of paint over the dark brown, such as light blue, white or creamy yellow. Let it dry for 12 hours.
Create distressed by rubbing areas of the cabinet with sandpaper, so the darker the paint begins to show through the lighter paint. Sand around the knobs, hinges and other areas such as corners, which becomes the most worn. Make sanded areas have rounded edges, not thanked them. Cover the finished cabinets with a coat of varnish to protect the wood and add shine. Apply a coat and let it dry before adding another coat if desired. Paint the louvered kitchen cabinet in your lighter color paint and let it dry before re-attaching the doors of the cabinets. Add the knobs eventually and buy antique or country style knobs from hardware to go with your new cabinet style.
